Employees Performance Management

The need for a strong and consistent approach to good performance management has never been clearer as we deliver the enabling change programme and transform our ways of working to meet the aspirations of the organisation.   

 

Improving and managing the performance and contributions of our employees are key elements in supporting and enabling the delivery of excellent services. Employees need to be clear on their role and their work-related objectives, and be acknowledged for the great work they do. We also want to ensure that employees who are not performing effectively are supported and managed in a fair and consistent way to encourage the necessary improvement in performance.

 

Our Contribution Management (CM) approach first implemented in 2001 provided an initial framework but it needs to evolve to meet the challenges of our work as it is now.

 

Our refreshed approach towards Performance Management (PM) is designed to develop a culture of real-time performance management that focusses on current and future performance and helps us deliver and improve as part of business as usual. It encompasses an approach that is:

  • More informal and frequent, and
  • More concerned with the quality of the conversation and the delivery of outcomes, rather than the filling in of forms.

 

In these pages we will set out our Performance Management approach - what is it, why is it important, who is responsible for its delivery and how it is supported. 

 

Who is covered

The Health and Social Care and Education and Children Services Directorates already have well developed performance management processes in place that meet their service and statutory requirements. These processes are aligned with the principles set out here and also meet with profession-specific performance management and recording requirements.

 

The Performance Management approach and the tools available should be used by employees across all other parts of the organisation, including in Health and Social Care and Education and Children Services for staff outwith the professional scope outlined above.
