Additional Support Needs
We welcome all children in our Fife schools and we aim to support any needs for additional support that that they may have. We will work closely with families who have concerns about their child or arrive in Fife.
In Fife, our first resort is for all children to attend their local school and to be successful there; we recognise that some children may need additional support to assist them to do so. For a few children with additional support needs it may be agreed that the local school is not the best option for the child. The most appropriate schooling may be within an additional support needs class or a special school. Before a decision is made, we will work closely with families to ensure the best outcome is reached for their child.
We have well developed procedures to identify, assess and respond to the additional support needs of our pupils. We encourage a person-centred approach to planning in which parents and the young person are central. School staff work in close partnership with a range of other agencies in support of children and young people.
We are proud of the quality of the support that we offer to successfully support pupils with a wide range of needs, and of the high rate of satisfaction reported by parents of their experience with our provision.
If you have concerns about your child’s progress or their additional support needs you should discuss these with the headteacher in your child’s school in the first instance.
